This time I chose to have breakfast somewhere else, after my earlier complaints about it being served an hour late and its quality. The water bottle in the minibar also caused confusion before, since it looked complimentary but was charged. They explained that at check-in this time. So a complaint can lead to better service. At checkout, though, they initially said I’d used the water, then confirmed I hadn’t and let me leave. That didn’t seem right, especially since rooms are inspected before guests are cleared. The room entry procedure made me uneasy. On a cold, rainy Sunday, I was asleep under the covers and was woken around 4 p.m. by a quick knock, followed almost immediately by the housekeeper coming into my room. There’s a phone in every room, but no “Do Not Disturb” sign. I’d expected staff to check with reception first, since guests have to leave their key there anyway, which already means waiting to hand it over and get it back. A quick knock with no time to respond feels no different from not knocking. I’ve stayed in many kinds of hotels and had a lock, but it didn’t fit this ordinary, basic room door. The key was in the lock, yet someone outside could still open it with another key. That left me worried, since things were on the table right by the door and could easily have been taken. A standard procedure could have prevented this, but it seems like too much trouble. The next day I requested room service and it wasn’t done. Later the housekeeper bothered me again, though she didn’t enter. This lack of consideration and respect has left me with a poor impression of housekeepers, who seem to have no empathy for guests. The bathroom is narrow, and the electric shower wasn’t warm enough in the cold weather. It has a curtain, which makes the room feel especially shabby. The tiny sink had enough pressure, but its faucet was short and the water only cold. The shower pressure was fine, but the central position could use a shower cap, which wasn’t provided. The weight of the water bent the shower extension, and the setup seemed poorly made. It squeezes you toward the faucet, and the cramped bathing area has you bumping against the walls. At night, with the curtain closed, it gets dark because the low light is near the mirror and doesn’t reach the shower. The toilet seems to have been adapted to use a tank. The seat wouldn’t stay upright, whether I was standing to pee or sitting down, and kept pressing against my back. There was a small mat, bath towel and hand towel, plus a little soap, shampoo, and conditioner, all with caps. Cleanliness is also affected by providing just one basic bar of soap. Does anyone at home use the same soap to bathe and wash their hands before handling food?

We loved the location, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Breakfast was simple, but fine for the price. The windows wouldn’t close, though, so there was a lot of noise from barking dogs, music, and traffic.

The service was really good and the price fair. It’s all very simple, but if you just need a good shower and a bed to rest in, it’s a great choice. I recommend it!
