Self Hostel

The room was clean and things were organized, and the guests I came across were polite and said hello. The street is quiet and close to everything, so during the day you can walk to nearby places, though I wouldn't recommend doing that at night. I stayed in room 11, which has no natural ventilation. Its window doesn't open and faces the street; construction next door was very noisy from around 7 in the morning. The entrance gate is just below, so arrivals and departures make a lot of noise too. There was an unpleasant smell in the room, which I think was due to the lack of airflow. The water purifier barely worked. It took about 20 minutes to get 500 ml of room temperature water, and it made a lot of noise, which must bother guests downstairs. Check-in starts at 2 pm, but checkout is by 10 am. If you want to arrive earlier, there's a fee of almost a full night's price, and there's nowhere to leave your bags unless you pay it. So these aren't really full-day stays. Booking questions also took a long time to get answered. I ended up bringing my own blanket and towel because I messaged in the morning but only got a reply at 7:37 pm, when I was already on the road.

The neighborhood was lively day and night, at least Monday to Friday because of the university. On Saturday and Sunday evenings it got quieter. There were lots of little bars, and having an Oxxo open 24 hours nearby was a big help. I had no trouble with noise when it was time to sleep. Just remember to do the pre-check-in on the website and ask for check-in details on WhatsApp, so you don't end up waiting outside with your bags like I did. We stayed four nights in a double room and were pleasantly surprised. The bathrooms were cleaned daily, the beds were comfortable, and the towels and blankets were warm and cozy.

The hostel looks plain from the outside, but inside it has been renovated, with quality beds and mattresses, comfortable bathrooms, and a really quiet place to rest. Check-in and checkout were easy and free of red tape. I was especially impressed by how clean the rooms and bathrooms were, well above average, even compared with many hotels I've stayed in around SP at the same price. It's a great base if you're going to shows around Perdizes, including Allianz Parque and Áudio. The Barra Funda Terminal is only a short walk away, as are Parque da Água Branca, Sonda supermarket, and West Plaza mall. We had a private room in a great location, so the value for money was exceptional. Such a pleasant surprise, and it's on my list of places to stay whenever I go to a show in Perdizes.

I went for work and stayed in room 2. The nearby event venues, market, and restaurants make the location useful, but the stay itself was awful for working. There was constant noise from people coming and going at the entrance and from the street. I couldn't open the window, the room was stuffy, there was no desk, and the internet barely reached the room. The rooms downstairs and the whole ground floor, including the kitchen and bathrooms, were very stuffy. The bathroom doors downstairs have gaps because of their hinges, so using them didn't feel comfortable. The flushes were so bad that other people's urine wouldn't go down, and there were always traces left behind. There were also splashes on the toilet, so I suggest having someone clean again in the late afternoon, not just in the morning. The white towels were already stained. It was disgusting, and I asked for another one. The place needs an urgent renovation to the facade, and the rooms should lose their rough concrete walls, which are uncomfortable and could hurt you at night. I'm tall, and the ground floor ceiling is low. I hit my hand and head on the shower several times in the downstairs bathrooms. I didn't feel at ease any day and wanted to leave as soon as possible. There was no one at the hostel around the clock to make it feel secure, and I didn't notice any security cameras. That made me especially uneasy because I'd brought work equipment into the room. Spiritually, I think the place needs a cleansing, since there are many spirits that feed on our energy and make guests feel worse.
