Estalagem Camburi

We loved our time at Estalagem Camburi and are already tempted to spend next Christmas there. We were told they put on a special Christmas dinner, and we’d definitely like to come back before then too. The inn is surrounded by greenery, so it feels wonderfully peaceful. It’s rustic, but carefully looked after, with lots of details and history. The pool is beautiful and really pleasant, and Filipe gave us a great welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room had a lovely garden view and was spotless. The bed was very comfortable, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. There was also a fan and a minibar. We stayed one night, and the breakfast wasn’t the most extensive. We think that may have been because only two rooms were occupied at the time. It was still tasty, and they’ll make tapioca and eggs to order if you’d like. My husband and I had a really lovely experience.

The photos in the listing are misleading, and the place needs maintenance and investment. The strong mold smell bothered us so much that we decided to leave the next morning. The room was tiny, with just a bench and a few hooks for clothes. The bathroom was extremely cramped and poorly maintained, and the sheets were dirty and smelled bad. The whole place, especially the room, had a heavy musty odor. Breakfast was very basic for the price of the stay. One good point: the woman who helped us on arrival was friendly and very helpful when we tried to change rooms. That wasn’t our experience with the manager at reception the next morning. We explained how disappointed we were and that the place didn’t match the listing, but he didn’t seem interested in asking questions, understanding the problem, or offering help. We paid for both nights in full, even though we arrived around 7 pm and left at about 10 the next morning. Only a few hours later, the hotel messaged us to offer a credit letter for another date at one of their other accommodations in the city.

The team was kind from the start, and I have no complaints about them. But the rooms look very different from the photos, and the place needs a lot of renovation. It really didn’t match the expectations the pictures had set.

The staff at the inn treated us well during our stay, but we were still disappointed. It took about 20 minutes for someone to open the gate. There was nobody at reception, even though they knew check-in was at 4 pm, and there was no sign telling us to ring a bell. We were just expected to guess. The room looked completely different from the photos, and the bathroom was extremely small. Check-in is very late and check-out is very early, with no flexibility about leaving later. Those parts really let the stay down.
