Pousada Baobá

Pousada Baobá has a distinctive setting in Juquehy, surrounded by Mata Atlântica with a huge variety of birds and plants, a beautiful mountain in view, and the beach nearby. ★★★★★★ The walk to where the river meets the sea is an easy one, about 5 minutes, through a pedestrian tunnel under the highway. You come out at the paradise shown in the photos! ◆◇◆ I had a wonderful stay. The facilities and pool were great, and the team was very helpful. ♥︎ I highly recommend it! =)

The shared pool and little bar area are very pretty, and the pousada is well located. Sérgio is a really nice, friendly guy. Breakfast is quite basic, though, and I didn’t like my room. It had a very strong odor and spiders on the walls. My main complaint was about a meal delivery the pousada itself recommended. They received my food but didn’t tell me. They only let me know two hours later, after I messaged reception to ask whether it had arrived. They had said they would call when it came, and when I went to collect it, it wasn’t even at the reception desk. It was on the waiting bench. The rooms aren’t cleaned, and the towels aren’t changed. The smell in the room was really strong. These seem like simple things to fix, and doing so could bring the pousada a lot of good recommendations.

The warm welcome from the team and the owner Sérgio helped make the stay enjoyable. They were attentive, helpful, and eager to improve things for guests. Breakfast was simple but tasty, with a decent selection of bread and fruit. The French bread, dulce de leche, and cheese bread were especially delicious. King, the pousada’s Dalmatian, was impossible not to love and helped us overlook the room. Sérgio was around and happy to suggest beaches, trips, and restaurants. Pousada Baobá offers good value if you want somewhere affordable and well located. Being close to the beach makes a real difference, and they have a cart for the beach umbrella, plus chairs and an umbrella to use. There’s also a shower to rinse off sand before going back to the rooms. The rooms need renovation and some fixes. On arrival, the atmosphere felt a little disappointing: damp, dark, and with a strong smell. We got there at night and found lots of tiny spiders on the ceiling. Better ventilation, lighting, and cleaning could make a big difference. For now, I’d recommend staying no more than 3 days, especially if you’ll spend most of your time at the beach. If you need more comfort or are uneasy around bugs, you may have a harder time. Since the pousada is near the woods, bring repellent for the biting flies. It really helps. With some structural improvements, this place could become an even stronger recommendation. We loved our stay!

The garden and natural setting are lovely, and the shared areas are very attractive. Breakfast was good, and the employees were friendly and helpful. The problems were mostly in the room and with upkeep. The air conditioner in the double room was very noisy. The fan in the living room, where the single beds are, was even worse, like being next to an airplane turbine. It was impossible to sleep with it on, even in the heat during our stay. There were also nails sticking out of the walls, probably left behind after pictures were removed. A child could have been badly hurt if someone pushed them while playing. We stayed three days with family, and the bathroom was never cleaned. They only emptied the small trash bin, and the towels weren’t changed. I had to ask for fresh ones. Reception was unattended about 90% of the time, and room keys were left on a plate there. I came in and picked mine up without anyone seeing or checking. I could have taken a key for any other room just as easily.
