Pousada Pé da Mata

We loved how quiet it was, surrounded by trees and the sounds of nature. It’s about a 25 minute walk from the beach, a little away from town, which suited me. The property is gorgeous and the spacious, clean rooms feel a bit like high end glamping. Breakfast is served by the pool or in your room in the morning and afternoon, with delicious homemade breads, cakes, and other things. There’s a nice waterfall about a ten minute walk away, and bikes are available to rent. It was such a peaceful break from hectic city life. The place is family run, and Ana, Rose, and Jo are all wonderful, genuinely nice people. They made us feel like family. I first contacted them on social media, and they replied quickly and showed right away that they cared about our experience. They were also following all the responsible COVID protocols. I had a lovely stay at Pe Da Mata and couldn’t speak more highly of it.

Getting there was the downside. The route goes through a strange looking neighborhood, then onto a very bumpy, narrow road with a trash dump beside it. See the photos. The facilities themselves were excellent, and the location in the middle of the jungle was beautiful. Our two floor chalet had a kitchen and an open lower area with a couch that turned into a double bed. The shower and sink were on the mezzanine, separate from the bathroom, and the bedroom was upstairs. WiFi is available inside and outside, but it doesn’t always work.

A hidden gem in the jungle part of town. The rooms are really spacious, and the surroundings are beautiful. A great spot to spend a couple of days and soak up the Atlantic forest.
