Pousada Calypso

Amazing place.

I spent one night at Pousada Calypso. The room was spacious, the bedding was excellent, and the bed was very comfortable. There was no soap in the shower, though, and the water pressure was very low. The grounds were quiet, with a beautiful view and a lovely pool, so it was a nice spot to relax. The jacuzzi is available by reservation for a one-hour session. Breakfast was mediocre, with few choices, and the welcome was adequate but basic. The staff did their jobs without being especially attentive. A pleasant place for a night, but it didn’t feel like a real escape if you want a fully relaxing stay.

We chose Pousada Calypso for a night in Trancoso. The setting is good and the location really is incredible, but the service was awful. Several employees acted as if they were doing us a favor, and weren’t friendly or proactive. The night receptionist stayed on her phone talking to friends and didn’t even look up to say good evening or ask if we needed anything. Rubens at reception and Ana at breakfast were the exceptions. The shower had low water pressure, the TV didn’t work, and we had to ask reception for soap because there wasn’t any in the room, not even to wash our hands. We were really disappointed. We’d been staying in Caraíva before this, where the service was fabulous, so the change was sad.

The pousada is full of trees and has a lot of charm. The pool is beautiful, and there’s a jacuzzi. Our room was comfortable and breakfast was incredible. Ana, who looked after us at breakfast, was so sweet. They also put out water, coffee, and cake in the afternoon, which I loved.
