Finding the camp on a self-drive could be easier. Skip Google Maps, it sent us bouncing along a roller-coaster road that seemed to lead nowhere. Once there, though, we loved the authentic African camp, the thoughtful details and the incredible setting. Elephants kept coming to the waterhole, and at night the tent let us hear all the sounds of the bush.

We ate really well and enjoyed every meal. The shared area was a lovely place to unwind, in a great spot, and the staff made us feel welcome. Our room was so comfortable, with a beautiful view. We had a fantastic time at Meno-A-Kwena and would happily recommend it.

The guides were full of information and quick to notice wildlife, so we didn't miss chances for photos. I also found the staff helpful and pleasant, and the meals were delicious. My tented room was spacious, clean and comfortable. A lovely stay.

The next morning, meeting a group of San was the real highlight. Their understanding of and connection with the African bush where they live, and the love and respect they showed for it, gave us a glimpse into their lives. I felt enormously privileged. The night before, we'd had a treat sharing dinner with Sarah and her wonderfully friendly staff. Our private luxury room overlooked the Boteti River, with a front-row view from our deck of the zebra migration, kudu, hippos and herds of elephants, including babies. Magical. Thank you, Natural Selection, for such a memorable experience. This has to be one of the most magnificent places on the planet.

The drive in Makgadikgadi National Park with KB was one of my best game drives ever. His guiding was spectacular. Back at camp, the staff and chefs deserve compliments for the attentive service and personal care. The tents are well appointed, with nice touches like personalised water bottles. My one frustration was finding the place: the road signs need to be clearer and more obvious. Riding around looking for a luxury camp site is beyond me. Still, it was a very special getaway.
