Sanctuary Baines’ Camp

Our guide, Professor Ice, was wonderful. His sharp eyes and ears helped us see more game here than anywhere else on our trip. The staff were my favorite part of this stop: they anticipated what we needed, left thoughtful touches in our room and packed our favorite snacks for drives. Baines Camp was our first safari lodging, and it set a nearly impossible standard. The place felt lavish but intimate, with outstanding game viewing, beautiful surroundings and decadent meals. I can't recommend it enough.

Max, our tour guide, showed us most of the big five and taught us a lot about Botswana's wild animals. The team was friendly and attentive, and the attention to detail meant all our needs were met. The camp is peaceful and beautiful, with comfortable rooms. You can have your bed moved onto the balcony to sleep outside, and there's a bathtub there too. A small, refreshing pool and bar look out over an astonishing view. It was unforgettable, and we'd happily return if we get the chance.

We visited in May during the dry season, when animals were easy to find around the available waterholes. The guides are amazing, and their advice is worth taking: get up early.

We had an enjoyable trip, with plenty of good food and friendly, knowledgeable staff. The sightings included lions, elephants, hippos, hyenas, leopard, Impala and lots of other deer and antelope.
