The biggest plus is the staff. They speak only a little English, but still try to help however they can, and they're always smiling and friendly. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean. It's about a 10-minute walk to the main public transport.

Viva Hostel is a quiet spot in central Minsk, about a 5-minute walk from Institute of Culture Metro Station, and Minsk Central Train Station is 7 minutes away on foot. The compact dorm rooms are simply furnished, with patterned wallpaper and fabrics, plus a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. A large shared bathroom is in the hallway, and guests can use the fully equipped shared kitchen. Shops, cafes, and restaurants are within a 10-minute walk. The hostel has a 24-hour front desk, bicycle rentals, free parking, and a tour desk for information about local sights. Independence Square and the National Opera and Ballet Theater are a 10-minute drive away. A shuttle to Minsk International Airport can be arranged on request.

My friend and I stayed in a four-bed room, and it was awful. The first bunk smelled strongly of urine, so we could only sleep and breathe on the second one. The door wouldn't lock from inside, and some guy came in looking for other men. Later, after we'd lain down and turned out the light, the manager barged in without knocking and took our only chair. It was so brazen that we're still shaken. The promised quiet hours after 11:00 PM never happened. The manager had friends over, and they laughed loudly and washed dishes until well past midnight. The next morning, those same people were sleeping on the foyer couches when it was time for us to check out.
