The Novelo

The Villa is a bit outside town, so it’s a good way to get away from the crowds. It’s a 20-25 minute walk, or about a leisurely 10-minute bike ride, and bikes were provided. The rooms were comfortable and quiet, and Abel went out of his way to make sure we had what we needed. The surroundings are beautiful, especially the dock where you can swim and relax in hammocks. I’d definitely recommend it for a couple of relaxing days on caye kauker 🤩

The owners are great, and there’s a pool and plenty of fans. Just be aware there’s no A/C, which matters in Belize. The room is basic but has a small kitchen, and it’s quite a distance from Caye Caulker’s main area. If you’re happy to walk, bike, or rent a golf cart, it’s a good budget option. I’d stay again.

Abel, the owner, made our visit to Caye Caulker memorable and gave us a lovely first taste of Belize. He’s a friendly, informative native Belizean who made us feel at home. When I hurt myself and couldn’t walk, he offered to drive me around town, and when I was too tired, he took my sons out to experience the nightlife. Novelo itself is quiet and distinctive, far from the crowds but only about a 10-minute bike ride from town, shops, restaurants, bars, beaches and dive shops. There’s an outdoor pool just for Novelo guests, plus a private, rustic look throughout: native tree trunks and branches used for the kitchen and bathroom counters, a stone-walled walk-in shower, mosaic fish in each room’s floor, and glass bottles set into some stucco walls to let in soft natural light. A charming, relaxing place.

We loved the private dock and beach, and the tucked-away setting away from the village bustle. Abel lends bikes at no charge for the quick ride into the village. A lovely alternative to a standard hotel, with a wonderful host.
