White Sands Cove

The staff were very nice, the rooms clean, and the restaurant decent with a nice view. I liked the small resort’s layout and its welcoming feel, with beautiful plants and wildlife. That said, it’s a solid three stars for me. There’s no beach to swim from. Murky, dirty water with trash laps at the shoreline, though that isn’t the resort’s fault or something it could control or clean up. We went snorkeling with one of the dive companies, but the “preserve” was crowded with boats and tourists, with murky water and lots of dead coral. We saw stingrays, a shark, turtles, and fish, but it wasn’t relaxing or enjoyable. In town, it’s noisy and dirty, and the roads have huge, frequent speed bumps. My husband and I both got motion sick, which never happens to us elsewhere. The gas golf carts aren’t comfortable, and it can take half an hour to cover four miles.

Our rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious, and the spot gives you privacy while still being convenient. It’s between Secret Beach and San Pedro Town, not so far out that getting around becomes a hassle. We came in the off-season and it was nice and quiet, though it seems quiet during the busy season too. The staff did everything they could to make our visit enjoyable. Big thanks to Mike and Andre for being so welcoming and helpful.

There’s no breakfast, so pick up supplies at the store. The restaurant is open six days a week for lunch and dinner, and I loved the fish tacos and mixed drinks. You can use the library, and there’s a dock for pickups, though the water there looked too dirty for swimming. Some days you can definitely smell sargassum. They provide large jugs of bottled water, and Aji is the only other restaurant within walking distance, but it’s good. Renting a golf cart makes getting into town easier, and the hotel is pet friendly, so you might see some cute pups. The rooms are huge, clean, and have kitchens. The pool was just the right temperature even in August, when pools elsewhere get too hot. It’s a peaceful, friendly, relaxing resort, and the staff are helpful.

It was such a peaceful, relaxing vacation. We loved sitting out on our balcony in the mornings, then reading or napping in the hammocks by the pool. The bar food was great and reasonably priced. Everyone at this adorable place did all they could to make our stay wonderful, from arranging a snorkeling trip that picked us up at the dock to getting the bikes ready for a ride to secret beach.
