Algonquin Lakeside Inn

We stayed here twice, once in autumn and once in winter, for one night each time. The location worked well for exploring nearby Algonquin trails, and the staff were helpful on both visits. There were a few small maintenance issues, so it's not perfect, but it's a decent, affordable choice for a short stay.

I've seen plenty of reviews from people who booked a room with a hot tub, then arrived to hear about water shortages or yellow water. My friend made our booking, and he didn't want to post under his own name. If the hot tub can't be used, advertising a room with one is false advertising.

The room was run down, and it was nearly impossible to reach anyone. We had to use bottled water to brush our teeth. Two days before our September 2024 visit, we were assured the restaurant would be open, but it wasn't. We had to travel almost half an hour west back to Highway 35 for breakfast, then head east for nearly an hour to Mew lake camp grounds to meet our friends. We picked this location hoping to shorten the drive to Mew lake. We would never stay here again.

We enjoyed the stay overall, and the people running the place were really nice and accommodating. We liked being on the west side of Algonquin Park. Cottage #20 had a moldy shower curtain, a broken hairdryer and no full-size refrigerator or freezer, which hadn't been mentioned in the online booking. In the kitchen, we could only plug in one appliance at a time before the circuit breaker tripped. The water could look discoloured, as we had seen online. It was safe to drink and shower with, though we'd recommend bottled water for drinking.
