We ended up changing our plans and not staying at Silver Dart, even though we’d been looking forward to the visit later that month. The refund was ultimately processed, and I appreciate that, but the way our complaint was first handled left us feeling unwelcome as prospective guests. It also made me question the lodge’s respect for customers when problems come up. A glitch in Silver Dart's own booking system, which a staff member later confirmed had happened before, put our reservation on the wrong dates. My wife called in good faith to discuss it and got a very dismissive, discourteous response from Ann. Her refund request was ridiculed, and none of the alternative ways she suggested we might still make the stay were considered. I later emailed video recordings showing the booking glitch. After that, the hotel acknowledged it wasn’t our fault and refunded us. We also sent polite feedback about the phone interaction afterward, but it was ignored entirely. The technical issue itself was disappointing, but we expected more understanding when we first asked for help, especially since this was apparently a known problem.

Before setting off around the Cabot Trail, we had our favourite stay of the trip at Silver Dart Lodge. The views on the property were absolutely stunning, and our clean, comfortable room had everything we needed. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and went above and beyond to help. We walked the trail behind the property before dinner at the restaurant. On the way we stopped at the pool, which was surprisingly clean and warm even in mid September. The seafood chowder was amazing. We came back for breakfast in the morning and had delicious food with a view, served by the same wonderful server. We’ll definitely be back!

It’s an older hotel, which gives it character. The bay view from our room was lovely, and I liked being able to step right out to the “porch” and relax. The town was an easy brisk walk away, with a great coffee shop and live entertainment. The views from some of the newer, bland, generic hotels pale in comparison. The food was great, and the room was immaculately clean. Every staff member I talked to was super friendly and helpful. Many knew the history of the Silver Dart and the town, and made suggestions, like taking the cruise to see the local eagles get fed. The restaurant manager was outstanding, funny, personable, and charming. What a place to stay in such a beautiful town.

We loved swimming in the heated pool, then sitting quietly on the balcony and watching clouds drift by. The lake view was wonderful, and the main town was close by.

You can’t beat the view, and the room was large and clean, though a bit dated. There was a distinct musty, moldy smell, and they seemed to know about it because dehumidifiers were everywhere. The restaurant hadn’t opened for the season, but you could get an à la carte breakfast. The photos show the view from the ground-level doors and the view from breakfast.
