Motel du Rosier

I've never had a worse hotel experience. The room door lock was broken, and I couldn't stay there. Ice covered the entrances, parking lot and walkways, with no effort made to clear it or make the areas safe. It was dangerous and completely unacceptable. The receptionist was also irresponsible and unhelpful. I don't have a photo of the broken lock to show as proof, but it was a serious problem.

We were very happy with the restaurant they sent us to, Le Poissonnerie. We sat on the terrace, had great cod, and packed some up to take home. Thanks to Martine and Natalie! The room was clean, and I loved having a glass wine glass in it. The bed was a little too soft, but it was a nice place to stay. We'll be back.

After traveling all day, we found the room cold and only partly made up, so we decided we couldn't put up with it and left without staying. It took 15 minutes, several phone calls and lots of bell rings before anyone came to the desk, since the office was locked and no one seemed to be around. There was also a lot of confusion over whether we'd made a reservation. Thanks to Booking.com for sorting things out and finding us a room at another hotel.

The outside was the only thing going for this motel. The hall carpet was disgusting and smelled like a frat house that hadn't been cleaned since 1969. The rooms smelled too. The carpets were dirty, pillows unusable, and half the towels were stained. The linens had been heavily bleached but still covered smelly pillows and mattresses. The mattress was firm, at least. I slept on the bottom sheet with a camping pillow, trying not to touch anything. I left the cleaning staff a tip because whoever cleans those rooms must have a heart of gold to work there. We'd ridden motorcycles thousands of miles and were exhausted, so we stayed, though sleeping in a tent would've been better. A previous review said the smoke detector was missing. Mine was there but didn't work. As I was trying to fall asleep and wondering whether the itchy feeling was real or imagined, I noticed the 1 star rating. Ugh. Fatigue can make you do unwise things. I gave it 1 star only because it couldn't be less. This motel seems to cater to manual labor workers. After we checked in, a truck arrived and about five men went into one room. I hope they're treated well, since I'm sure they work harder than anyone I know, and I hope they're not paying for their accommodation. This motel would be 2 stars in a 3rd world country, not Canada.
