Auberge Du Cafe Chez Sam

We had a fantastic dinner, with great local seafood and wonderful service. The place was clean, quiet, cozy, and warm. I'd pick it for a romantic dinner over anywhere in Tadoussac.

The patio has a beautiful view, and the staff were friendly, prompt, and great with us. We stopped for lunch before our whale cruise because we were really hungry. There were other food options nearby, but with all the construction, this was the only accessible place. The food and drinks were good. I especially loved the salad that came with my sandwich, one of the best I've had. I can't remember what it was called. It had greens, sweet papaya, and I think sweet raspberries and strawberry, with a lovely balance of sweet, sour, and salty flavors. The portion was decent, though the prices seemed high. Then again, it's a remote tourist spot.

We stayed a night at Chez Sam and ate there too. The salads we tried at dinner were delicious, with some really nice flavor pairings. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, including the breakfast staff the next morning. They helped us with our laundry, and when we needed to hang out for a while, they brought us coffee refills. My one suggestion would be to offer espresso. I think European travelers would enjoy that.

I went on a solo trip around Saguenay and Tadoussac and found some places in Tadoussac pricey for what they offered, with rude staff at many of them, though there were a few exceptions. This little café/restaurant was a lovely change. Abigael was especially helpful, with great service and recommendations, and everyone was so friendly. The food tasted like it was made with love, and the portions were just right. I had the bison curry and seafood chowder, and both were delightful. It's about 20 minutes from Tadoussac, so worth the drive if you're staying there, or a nice stop if you're passing through or staying outside town.
