Swept Away Cottages

I was part of the family group that booked for an October wedding. The host canceled my reservation without contacting me, which felt very disrespectful. I didn’t appreciate the $100 per night increase over the listed and confirmed price, though I might have been able to live with that. I’d give fewer stars for the service if I could.

The beach is just a hop, skip, and a jump away, and the pool and nearby attractions were a hit with our grandkids. We spent last week there with them, and it was a wonderful place. The owners were very accommodating, the beds were comfortable, and the cottages were super clean and well equipped. Would highly recommend.

The cottages are in good shape and the location is great, but the shared games room and swings weren’t in stellar condition. We were also short on supplies like dishwasher pellets and toilet paper, and the shower in our cottage was basically unusable. The place itself is pretty nice, but the service was not. The woman managing or owning the cottages was rude and unresponsive to reasonable requests, and clearly runs the show. Months before our stay, I called the office after booking to ask if someone could sleep in a tent outside our cottage if needed. I asked again when discussing the deposit, which I sent. Both times, the office assured me it was no problem and would be fine. But when we arrived after paying for three nights, it suddenly became a big issue, and they suggested going to a nearby campground. They then came up with a $50 per night tent charge. The money wasn’t the issue; it was the rude attitude, as if I’d broken some cardinal rule after being told twice it was fine. There’s no tent surcharge mentioned on the website or in any Swept Away paperwork. It felt like a made-up fee, similar to ones other commenters have mentioned. When I disputed it, the manager threatened to charge the amount to someone else’s VISA in our large family group, so I paid to avoid that. We still had a good family gathering despite these problems, but we won’t be back. I wouldn’t recommend bringing a family here because the lack of basic courtesy and over-the-top rudeness can make your stay much less lovely.

We spent three days at this charming cottage while visiting PEI, and it was the best place for our trip. PEI National Park is only a few minutes away by car, and the owner was exceptionally kind and welcoming. The cottage was spotless. There was plenty to enjoy, from cooking inside and relaxing in the whirlpool to using the outdoor barbecue, fire pit, and trampoline. Stargazing while lying on the trampoline was unforgettable. It’s ideal for a larger family group or a trip with friends. Highly recommend!
