The Lakes at Ben Eoin Golf Club and Resort

We enjoyed the accommodations, and the pace of play was pretty good. This was our second trip, after first visiting in 2020. The tee boxes and greens were in very good condition. The course wasn’t green and played very fast because conditions were so dry, which made it difficult, though that wasn’t the course’s fault. It was nice and green when we visited before.

There wasn’t any breakfast at the restaurant, and the room wasn’t serviced between dates. The rooms feel dated. The coffee maker was great, but the water carraff was so big I couldn’t fill it at the sink and had to use the tub tap. The golf ball shaped plastic room keys are huge and inconvenient.

The greens were in good shape, but incredibly fast, so there were plenty of three putts. The accommodations were great, and the course had a really good variety of holes.

Trying to arrange a golf trip here was a very bad experience. We booked a stay and play package about eight weeks ahead, and the website didn’t flag any problems. When I called around four weeks before arrival to book tee times, I learned there was a tournament on our arrival day, scheduled well in advance, so we couldn’t play that day. I was disappointed that the booking system had let us reserve the package. Staff agreed we shouldn’t have been able to book, but confirmed that we had, and a young woman said she’d ask management what they could do. She mentioned a complimentary hotel night as a possibility. While waiting, we booked Saturday and Sunday tee times. After several calls over a few days, we were offered a $200 discount, which we felt was fair because it would cover green fees elsewhere. We confirmed those weekend times and thought everything was settled. Then, three days before we were due to arrive, a man called to say they couldn’t give us Saturday or Sunday tee times because it was the Club Championship weekend. He was terse and unapologetic, saying there was nothing they could do. I pointed out that we’d booked online and confirmed the times over several days and several conversations with different staff, without anyone raising this. He said the booking system had made an error and we shouldn’t have been able to book a golf package that weekend. I was concerned that the late notice left us little chance to find another package or golf elsewhere. His response was, “not our fault.” I can’t comment on the course or accommodations, only on how difficult it was even to try to get there to play.
