The staff were fortunately very friendly, and the room itself was clean. But the hotel seemed full of what I assume was a kids' hockey team. Parents drank and talked loudly in the breakfast area late into the evening while kids ran along the halls. Our room had a cold draft from the window, so keeping the temperature comfortable overnight was hard. The tub plug didn't work either, which meant I had to keep topping it up for my child's bath. Breakfast was below par: greasy sausages, a lukewarm cheese omelet, baked beans, and coffee that tasted burnt and very strong.

The breakfast is what made this a five-star stay for me. I'm easy to please, and having plenty of bacon and sausage was great; the chocolate milk was the finishing touch. There was more than just those three things, but those were the ones that mattered to me. The room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean, and the pool area was clean and great too. I had an amazing stay.

I travel every week and haven't run into service like this before. The sausage and bacon were gone before 9:30, and when I asked for more, the girl said no, even after confirming breakfast was still being served. There were other breakfast items, mostly carbs. The eggs were partly undercooked powdered eggs and partly burnt black bits. I'll be glad to return to Best Western or Microtel for my monthly trips. Someone needs training on this.

The room was dirty and hot, and after driving nine hours I wasn't about to spend another 20 minutes downstairs asking to move. I got in around 1:45 a.m. and found chunks of dirt on the light switch, a handprint on the wall, a plastic cup on the floor, and a half-chewed action figure my dog found and chewed more. He could have choked on it. The AC didn't work either. I hadn't expected a pet room to be an insufficient, dirty room. I'd stayed here months ago and it was wonderful, so this time felt like a complete reversal. I booked through booking.com and noted that I'd arrive around 1-2 p.m. with three dogs. They're pet friendly, and I said we'd be quiet and just needed a quick rest while traveling. After about an hour, I got an email approving the request. When I arrived around 1:20 a.m., the front desk agent handed me a no-pets form. I explained about the dogs and the confirmation; she seemed shocked and said she didn't know who would have responded. She moved me to a pet room and charged the $30 fee, which was fine. But she spent at least 20 minutes clicking in silence. Then she mentioned an incidental charge. That was fine too, but the payment machine didn't show the amount. When I asked how much, she went quiet, said “uh,” and pretended to do something below the desk. By then it was 1:40 and I was tired, so I said never mind, I didn't care. I wasn't rude. I emailed the front desk before posting this, but nearly 12 hours later there's still been no response.
