Grand Motel

My partner and I couldn’t stay the whole night. Other guests or people nearby were making a commotion outside my room and circling my car, and I didn’t feel safe in the area after dark. We left at 2 in the morning and dropped the key in the mailbox outside the front desk. The room had no air conditioning, and the heat was on full blast. When we asked the front desk to turn it off, they said no. The bathroom floor was covered with hair from previous guests, and the white towels had questionable brown spots. We found what seemed to be bed bugs in the comforter. The floors needed mopping so badly that my socks were black by the end. Best to keep your shoes on. I was very disappointed with my stay at the Grand Motel in Brantford.

For a cheap overnight, it’s very bare-bones, but it has what you really need and the shower was surprisingly clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there were no bugs. Still, it’s not good: there were nicotine stains and cigarette burns here and there. The heat kept kicking on in the middle of summer, with no thermostat or window that opened in the room.

I called ahead to make sure a room would be available, but when we arrived shortly after midnight I had to buzz the front door. The attendant said they were fully booked and was annoyed that I’d woken them. They came out of one of the rooms extremely high on something and partly choking just trying to breathe. We were taken to a filthy first room, infested with cockroaches everywhere. We could hear people in neighboring units complaining about a bad batch of drugs. We left right away, only to find two guys looking at my truck. They had just robbed another addict’s unit. We were shown a second room, and three cockroaches ran out before I’d even opened the door fully. There were blood stains on the bed comforter and the table beside it. Any good reviews about this place must be fake or paid for. I still feel gross just writing this review.

At 10pm, someone or several people were running around on the roof, and we couldn’t sleep. We ended up leaving at 10:30pm without staying the night. The Wi-Fi didn’t work at all, despite there being three or five different connections. There was no heat either. You could see through the floor vents into the boiler room below, where pipes were leaking and water could be heard running and spilling everywhere. The heat grates seemed to be just covers for holes opening into the boiler room or basement. Looking through them was like a horror movie, no joke. The room itself was clean and the caretaker was kind, but that’s all I can say for it. I feel bad for anyone who has to live there. It’s cheap, but come on, you can probably do better.
