Higgin's Inn

We needed three bedrooms for my mom, my 19-year-old son, and me, and there was lots of room during our four-night visit. The guest rooms are upstairs, so the stairs may be a consideration if they're difficult for you. There's a rocky beach a short walk away and a market about 1-2 miles from the inn. We came to Powell River in late June for the PRISMA music festival, where my son was attending for two weeks, and caught some performances while visiting the area. Rob was welcoming and helped us settle in. He showed us his garden, lent us coffee grounds and camp chairs for the outdoor finale, and shared recommendations for things to do. We enjoyed the stay more than expected and would call again if we're back in PR.

Rob made the week especially fun for the kids, spending lots of time playing with them and organizing treasure hunts. The gardens are lovely, and guests can pick fruit from the trees. There's also a BBQ to use, and the beach is only a short stroll away for great sunsets. Our family of six, plus my mother-in-law, stayed for a full week. The large, homey suite had everything we needed, including a well-equipped kitchen for making meals, plenty of towels and linens, a nice shower and tub, and comfortable beds. The younger kids were especially happy with the bunk beds. We'd happily recommend Higgin's Inn for a family trip and can't wait to return.

The hosts made us feel welcome and were attentive without hovering. The old-fashioned inn has modern comforts and is only steps from the beach, even better in person than it sounded. There's a peaceful front yard with a pond and easy-to-follow paths, while the forest trails down the road feel magical. Kids can enjoy the trampoline and the fish. Inside, memorabilia fills the inn, with stories behind the collection. It was a lovely place to unwind and a good base for exploring the activities in this beautiful spot just outside the city limits. Huge thanks for a stay that felt both calm and exciting.

We found the place beautiful and serene, and the owner was friendly and helpful. Our group was a teen, two adults, and a senior; we stayed on the second floor, and everyone managed the stairs just fine. The rooms were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. I'd like to come back and stay longer at a slower pace.
