Spark by Hilton Brockville

The bed was super comfortable, the TV was easy to use, and the price was decent. The location was pretty good, with restaurants and a grocery store nearby, so I'll stay again. The hotel was nice and clean, and the staff were friendly enough. They even watched my dog briefly while I went in to grab breakfast to go. The continental breakfast was standard, with eggs, sausage or bacon, bagels, yogurt, fruit, and similar options. The breakfast room was decent and clean, and I noticed a BBQ area out back. They allow pets, with a non-refundable $25 per night fee, and have an area behind the hotel for dogs to go, with a bin and doggy bags. It's not handicap accessible. There's no ramp or lowered curb at the front entrance, no automatic button to open the hallway door from the lobby, and I didn't see any elevators. I noticed while struggling with the luggage cart and my little dog. Some bricks are missing from the sidewalk outside, and I tripped a few times. A few small repairs would make the place even better.

The breakfast was included, with decent hot coffee and fresh fruit. The hot items were the weak spot: the eggs had an artificial texture and, like the bacon, seemed microwaved, which brought down the quality. The app was convenient and worked smoothly for opening doors, using the TV, and checking out. Even though the hotel is just a stone's throw from the 401, the room was quiet and well soundproofed. I also slept well, thanks to the comfortable bed and pillows, and the adjustable heater was surprisingly quiet.

Ajith, the manager, was awesome and very helpful, and we'll stay again. Our room was pet friendly since we travel with our two dachshunds. It had no carpet and no pet smell like at some other hotels. The rooms are large and clean, and breakfast was good, especially the really good cheese omelets we had one morning.

The hotel has had a facelift and looks okay aesthetically, but there was a funky smell in the hallways. The rooms were okay. The shower had just been covered over, which I guess is fine, but you can still see the old drain underneath the new one. The staff weren't attentive. At check-in I asked if I'd get Hilton points and was told yes. I called later to see if they had been processed and was told the stay wasn't connected to my account. They said nothing could be done until perhaps the staff member talked to their manager on Tuesday. I'll contact Hilton corporate to see if there's a resolution.
