Sandman Inn Cache Creek

Cache Creek feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere to me, mostly a place to stop while traveling from A to B, with limited accommodations and amenities. This place is the oldest Sandman in B.C. and is clearly trying to update. It has seen better days, but both times we stayed on this trip, the rooms were very clean. The air conditioning was already on when we arrived, so the rooms were lovely and cool. Linens and towels were fresh, clean, and very white, and the bathrooms were clean too. We got a very pleasant welcome. On our way up to Prince George, the restaurant wasn’t open, but it had opened two days before we returned a week later. The service was friendly, the food was good, and everything was clean.

I’ve been coming here now and then for 40 years, so I know it’s an old facility and it shows. Still, the rooms were nicely furnished, with comfortable beds and clean sheets. The A/C was already running when we arrived, which felt so nice, and the sofa bed looked brand new. The carpet looked new too. We stayed just one night and slept very well. After checking in, we spent a little time sitting by the creek. Reception was friendly, and we saw people cleaning the baseboards and the hot water kettle in the lobby. They clearly take pride in the place.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. The room was very dirty and needed repairs, and the walls were so thin I could hear people snoring all night. Reception leaves partway through the evening and doesn’t come back until after 7. I don’t know what was on the bedroom and bathroom walls, but don’t touch them.

The hotel clerk was extremely polite, but the property itself left me hugely disappointed. I’d booked online based on the reviews and photos, and it looked nothing like what I’d seen. The restaurant seemed to have been closed and out of business for years, and there were piles of trash by the entrance to the restaurant and hotel lobby. It didn’t give me confidence that the stay would be comfortable or satisfactory. I’ve stayed in some bad hotels, and this looked like one of them. I won’t rely on online hotel reviews again.
