Econo Lodge Motel Village

The staff were the best part for me. Every person I dealt with was cordial, wonderful, and willing to help with concerns. There were plenty of appliances and outlets in the room, and the free continental breakfast and discounts at local restaurants were real perks. The price was reasonable compared with other places, and it exceeded my expectations. The building is dated, though they do their best with what they have. Noise could be an issue with unruly or loud guests, so I wouldn’t recommend it for young families. I can’t speak to the A/C, but the temperature during my visit was great. It’s a good fit for budget-minded travelers who don’t need lots of amenities, as long as you have realistic expectations.

My car was broken into in the parking lot the property told me to use and gave me a permit for. I was shocked to find out there are no cameras in the lot at all, even though guests are directed to park there. While I was handling the aftermath and filing reports, staff offered only a small checkout extension, until 11:30. I got no real help or concern, and there was no sense of responsibility for guest safety. I lost so much in the incident. There was no care, respect, or urgency from the hotel. If I could, I’d give this place zero stars.

The continental breakfast was decent for the price: two cereals, a quick pancake station, boiled eggs, coffee, tea, muffins, and toast. The cleaning staff were friendly, quick to greet people, and clearly work hard. Most things were modern and clean, which pleasantly surprised me for an Econo. One pillow had a very noticeable old blood stain. We turned it over and tried to pretend it wasn’t there. The person who checked us in wasn’t very pleasant, but I only dealt with them once. The other reception attendants were cheerful and nice. Recommended if basic amenities are enough for you.

The reception area had me wondering about the hotel at first, but the rooms were so clean and the service was mind blowing. The breakfast was free, fresh, and delicious, and the staff in the breakfast room were friendly and helpful. Room service was on point too. Each room has two beds, so four people can sleep there. They brought clean towels every day, and there’s a whole kitchen with utensils, a fridge, microwave oven, and everything you need for a stay. 10/10, would recommend trying this place if you’re staying in Calgary for Banff.
