Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Calgary-Airport

The beds were comfortable and breakfast was okay, but our toilet stopped working the next day and made for a very stressful morning before our flight. The room itself had been good. I usually choose Hilton for a comfortable stay, but this hotel felt a bit old and in need of renovation. Staff didn’t help us as much as I expected, and there are plenty of other hotels in the area.

Make this hotel your last choice. The night staff seem to hate hospitality. When guests take the wrong airport shuttle, they shout at them, even though the wrong shuttle driver kindly offers to drop them at an unrelated hotel. They could learn something from that driver. When guests need to get to the airport, staff act as though running a shuttle every hour is a favour. The night manager, who sometimes drives too, gets zero for hospitality or helping people, even when it would take very little effort. They just stand there like statues and work like robots. You won’t get stories of staff going above and beyond here. Stay only if it’s your last option for a night stopover.

My accessible room was clean and comfortable, though I personally don’t prefer that type because some standard amenities were missing. It was basic for a three-star hotel, but decent enough for a short work trip, with nothing especially memorable. Staff were friendly, and check-in was quick and easy.

The pool is tiny and down in the basement, and breakfast was good but short on seating. The hotel has an odd layout, with two buildings and the lobby in an atrium between them. It’s somewhat modern, though it’s starting to show its age. We had a good experience, but next time I’d probably pick a different hotel near YYC airport. It’s across from the Coke bottling factory.
