Red Umbrella Inn

We spent a lovely long weekend at the Red Umbrella Inn, with plenty to do during the day. We canoed, swam and used the paddle boats, then spent some time reading under the trees. At night, we sat around the fire and got to know the other guests. The hosts were attentive and helpful, and the waitress and chef were wonderful, with fun banter and local event recommendations. Our lake view lodge room was spacious and the bathroom was very clean, though the room itself felt a bit dated. The AC was easy to use, and the lake view was hard to beat. Waking up to loons was beautiful. Just so you know, room 28bis had two twin beds pushed together, with no TV, fridge or microwave in the room. There's a shared fridge and microwave downstairs for leftovers. The restaurant overlooks the water, and the food was great, especially breakfast. We're looking forward to next summer.

Kirk, the concierge, really made our weekend special. He went above and beyond, helping with the boat launch and sharing useful local tips. The cottage was cozy and comfortable for sleeping, and it had air conditioning. We also enjoyed the Rock the Lake concert on Saturday night. We were impressed with the experience at the Red Umbrella Inn and would recommend it to anyone after a peaceful getaway near Twelve Mile Lake.

Zee took care of everything we needed and was a fantastic host. The waterfront location worked perfectly for us, with easy access to Minden, Haliburton and Dorset, and it was great that the place is dog friendly. We'll be back!

Our two big dogs had a great time roaming off leash and swimming in the lake. They made friends with Rusty, the resident pup, and with the other guests, both people and dogs. Over three nights, we had a three-course dinner on the first day, barbecued on the second, and enjoyed excellent Korean food on the third. In the evenings, we gathered at the fire pit, where Michael entertained us with stories over toasted marshmallows, and we chatted with the owner over drinks and dinner. The hospitality was warm, the rooms clean and spacious, and the hosts and staff were friendly and kind. The location was fabulous. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning!
