Days Inn by Wyndham Chetwynd

My company put us up here for nine nights while we did oilfield work. The hotel was under construction, and the night shift barely got any sleep. Our rooms were cleaned just once. Breakfast every day was steam-tray omelettes and meatballs. The place was run like a third-world hostel, with lazy, rude staff. One evening the desk attendant was lying on the lobby couch and only got up after I rang the bell. One of the construction workers was apparently one of the contractors, lol. What a joke. Stay somewhere else.

The location was quiet and convenient, close to everything I needed in town. Breakfast was included, fresh and tasty, with a good range of choices. My room was spacious, spotless and comfortable, and had everything I needed to relax. The staff were warm, helpful and always ready with a smile. Days Inn in Chetwynd exceeded my expectations, and I'd gladly stay there again. I highly recommend it for the comfort, cleanliness and service.

The staff I dealt with were polite and professional when I raised problems, and they did let me move to another room. But after spending $565, I wasn't offered any discount for the trouble, and the rooms were in rough shape. The first room had stains on every sheet and bed cover, coffee marks on the walls, grime built up on the soap dispensers, a towel hook ripped off the door, and an office chair that looked like it had been pulled from a fire. The replacement was better, though not by much. It took an hour and a half to get into a room I could stay in. After the second night I asked for a thicker blanket because the one on the bed was paper-thin. They brought me one, but it was ripped and stained. I arrived at noon after booking a week ahead, and the room wasn't ready. There was just one car in the parking lot, so it didn't seem busy.

The beds are very comfortable, and the location is great, but the breakfast was awful for a free one. I'd rate it 1 out of 10 compared with other places we've stayed. There's little variety, and the food isn't good. Around 8 am on August 27th, the pancake batter was low and the machine wasn't working. I asked the woman at the desk for help. She wasn't busy and said she'd come over because something was wrong with the machine, but she kept doing what she was doing and never showed up. We left without getting anything, though we didn't feel we'd missed much.
