We held staff meetings and ceremony activities here, and the conference setup worked very well. The spacious room was clean, comfortable, and well equipped, with an impressive large screen and AV system that made presentations easy. Guest rooms were also roomy and clean, with great beds and showers for winding down after a full day. The catering was a real highlight. Meals and snacks were delicious, plentiful, and thoughtfully prepared. The staff kept everything fresh and organized, and many attendees said the food was one of the best parts of the stay. Kudos to the kitchen staff! Everyone we dealt with, from management and the kitchen to catering and the front desk, was warm, helpful, and made our guests feel looked after. Hotel Dene & Conference Center offered a welcoming atmosphere, great service, and good value. We’d gladly return for future events and recommend it as a conference venue. The front desk staff have been polite, but the way management handled my wrongly charged credit card has made a higher rating impossible. Each front desk employee agreed the charge shouldn’t be there, but said only a manager could correct it. I called repeatedly and was promised callbacks several times. Two weeks later, I still hadn’t heard from anyone or had the issue resolved. One staff member said the manager hadn’t responded because she was busy training and wasn’t dealing with other responsibilities. This customer service is unacceptable. If they make a mistake on your card, expect to chase answers without getting a resolution.

The bed and pillows were really comfortable, and the main room was clean. The cuddle couch was comfy too. Breakfast was excellent, and the casino restaurant across the lane in a separate building serves amazing food in huge portions. The hotel was affordable, quiet, and mostly clean. There were problems in our room: the shower head was pulling away from the wall, pink mold was around the inside of the shower base, and the phone didn’t work and wasn’t fixed during our stay. The TV had issues that were eventually sorted out, and although there was an ice bucket, there weren’t any cups. It’s just outside Cold Lake, so without driving into town you’re limited to the hotel amenities. It could be great for people who gamble, but we don’t think we’d stay again.

The food was incredible, especially the chicken, and our guests kept talking about how delicious it was. My fiancé is celiac, so the team prepared everything safely for them, and almost the whole meal, including dessert options, was gluten-free. Several guests came from out of town and appreciated being able to stay on-site and celebrate without worrying about transportation. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had 130 people in the banquet room, which felt full but still comfortable with a dance floor. I think any more guests would have made it too cramped. The staff made our September wedding reception feel special, and Chaman, Joan, and Nico communicated well and helped us plan and set everything up. Chaman was especially kind. At first we dealt with another manager whose inconsistent information led to more charges than we expected. Chaman took over a couple of months before the wedding and reduced several of those costs. She also upgraded our room, where we stayed that night, and they left roses, wine, and charcuterie boards for us. My main complaint was the bar arrangement. It was first set up just outside the banquet room, where things got congested. Moving it to the dining area near the front gave people more space, but took space from our dance floor and brought a few complaints from other hotel guests. Even with that issue, we’re glad we chose Hotel Dene for the reception. We recommend it for events because of the staff, food, and beautiful space.

I stayed at Hotel Dene & Conference Centre, Cold Lake, for about six months starting 05 May 2025. I’m giving this account for the record. I retained emails, dated photographs, invoices, and written correspondence supporting what I describe, and the material is time-stamped and available to relevant authorities upon request. At checkout on 24 November 2025, I raised the accumulated problems. Rather than acknowledging the documented issues, the response included statements that didn’t match the record. In particular, the General Manager said my room had been accessed for daily housekeeping. Photographs I took on 19 November 2025, with towels left in place to check service consistency, showed they hadn’t changed. When a representative says room servicing happened when the evidence indicates it didn’t, I have concerns about accurate internal reporting, how service is represented, the reliability of statements to guests, and record-keeping and transparency. The problems had been recurring, not isolated, and required me to follow up repeatedly. Scheduled housekeeping was missed more than once. Flies or bugs were present in the room over an extended period without a lasting fix. Maintenance concerns were addressed only after I supplied photo or video evidence. Communication was inconsistent, with little accountability in reporting service. A long-term guest needs reliable sanitation; insects over several months along with irregular cleaning seem like a structural issue, not an incidental one. This concerns hygiene, habitability, and basic lodging standards. There was also a room-access failure at about 04:48 AM on 10 November 2025. It took around 37 minutes and multiple attempts with master keys before I could get in. I documented it separately by email. If it had been an emergency, access would not have been timely, so I believe the procedures warrant internal review. I’m pursuing formal complaints with consumer protection authorities and relevant lodging bodies for review and oversight, not compensation. I’m making this public so future guests know, service consistency issues can be acknowledged, management can see the operational concerns, and similar experiences can be prevented. This is a factual account based on accumulated experience and evidence, not an emotional one. Guests should be able to rely on hygiene, reliability, and transparency. Having to monitor and document basic room conditions for months, then hear verbal claims that contradict the evidence, undermined my confidence in management. I hope ownership reviews its processes, the accuracy of its records, hygiene protocols, and service consistency. No guest should have to keep evidence of basic housekeeping and room conditions over months. My assessment: 1 star.
