Hotel Corner Brook

We’ve stayed here twice now, and it’s always clean and comfortable. The staff gave us great service, and thanks to Shawn in particular. Shops, restaurants, bars, banks, the theater, and the new bar that looks amazing are all within walking distance downtown. I’d recommend staying here. Just keep in mind it’s downtown, with a few questionable people around. We enjoyed our stay overall.

The room smelled like body odor, the shower had hair in it, the furniture was visibly broken, and the TV didn’t work. Nobody was available to fix it. The website lists a $20 pet surcharge, but they charged another $100 deposit and $54 for pets. Reception couldn’t answer a question or print a receipt. It was $300 a night for a poverty-level experience. By far the worst hotel experience I’ve had. I’d avoid this dump at all costs.

The location is good, and the staff were helpful. I didn’t feel safe, though: there are no locks on the entrance or the doors leading to the stairs, and there’s a pub in the same building. The hotel is small and very affordable, so I wouldn’t expect many extras. Still, I could list things it needs, like air conditioning, a microwave, and a kettle.

The listed 3-4 star rating and the name Historic Corner Brook Hotel caught my eye, but we didn’t stay. The building is in a run-down part of the city, surrounded by homeless people. The front desk has plexiglass and Methadone Clinic business cards displayed. Our room was very dark, and the beds didn’t look like the sheets were clean. I wasn’t sure our rental car would still be there in the morning.
