Prospector Inn

The room smelled of cigarette smoke, and the mattress had yellow stains. After 2 am, we could hear yelling and screaming. The RCMP arrived and, about 30 minutes later, made those people leave. This was my first stay here, and I wasn't impressed.

While we were waiting for breakfast, my mom was told inside that they wouldn't serve us. A few of us had stepped outside for a cigarette, and I tried explaining that to the server. Then the cook came out, told us to leave, and called us drunks. I told her I was sober. We'd already waited almost an hour, asked when breakfast would be ready, and watched other people get served. It was the worst service I've ever had.

The breakfast was good and the stay itself was fine, but the room needed a proper cleaning. Behind the bedside table was filthy, and the toilet hinges looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. When I asked why the room hadn't been cleaned, the young man said the good housekeepers worked during the week, while the younger weekend staff were only there a few hours and weren't as good. That's no excuse. He brought one towel and a bath mat, so I had to ask for another towel. The lamp only worked after he jiggled its cord, which sounds like a loose wire, and one mattress sagged terribly. The owner kept saying, “We'll do better next time.” I hope they do.

We paid less than half what nearby hotels would have cost, and that price did come with some rough edges. The building is dated, the walls have obvious, poorly repaired damage, the towels are worn though clean, and the toilet seat was bad. There were also some questionable guests. Our neighbor had people coming and going every 15-20 minutes, then spent the next five minutes slamming and scraping the door around, and seemed obviously high. Large work trucks came and went too. If babies or drug users are a concern for you, be aware. Still, our two-night family stay with a dog was very good. The on-site restaurant was handy, the Wi-Fi handled four Xbox Ones, three tablets, and four phones without problems, and the shower was strong. The beds were fairly comfortable, the doors locked securely, the carpets were clean, and the mini-fridge and microwave worked well. There was a big TV, too. If you're comfortable behind a locked door, you may enjoy it.
