Courtyard by Marriott Halifax Dartmouth

The peaceful stay gave me the space and inspiration to get back to a creative project, and I left with a new piece I’m proud to share. My room at Courtyard by Marriott Halifax Dartmouth was spotless and modern, with a striking view over the commercial district. Watching fog roll in beneath a clear sky in the morning was especially lovely. The location in Dartmouth Crossing is handy for shops, restaurants, and scenic walking trails, and the quiet atmosphere and comfortable bed were welcome after long days out. Check-in was easy, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Peggy’s Cove views and a full-moon night at the harbor made the visit even warmer. The front desk team suggested pizza late at night, and I got to reconnect with a retired friend nearby. I’ll look forward to returning with friends or for a business trip to Halifax.

The breakfast had a good selection and tasted great, and they were accommodating when I asked for a later checkout. I stayed here in May and found the experience comfortable and smooth. The front desk staff were very friendly at check-in, and both the common areas and my room were clean and quite modern. One of the best Courtyard locations I’ve stayed at.

We came for a Valentine’s night away from the kids and home, but I wouldn’t choose this place again for a romantic getaway. When we checked in there was a long line, and although three employees were at the stations, only two were checking people in. Our room was clean except for something sticky on the bathroom floor, which made me wonder if it had been mopped. The pool itself was large and nice, with a big slide that would be great for kids, and there was a whirlpool. But despite the posted rules, lots of children under six were in it, and some under thirteen were unsupervised. The whole pool area was full of screaming children and no adults taking control. I have a child and know kids like to have fun, but the shrieking, including a scream that sounded like someone was hurt, was very annoying. Children splashing and causing havoc in the hot tub cut our time there short. No employees seemed to be checking that guests followed the rules, so it was a free-for-all. We could also hear everything outside our room, from doors closing and people walking and talking to toilets flushing. I was truly disappointed, especially after reading the good reviews.

The fridge froze our food and the shower conditioner was empty on this latest visit. They weren’t major problems since we only stayed one night, and we reported both to the front desk when leaving. We’ve stayed here before and were satisfied each time. As a former Certified Pool Operator, though, I’d say the pool needs work. You shouldn’t smell chlorine as soon as you enter the property.
