The owner was friendly and easy to sort things out with, and the rooms were about what I expected. We had a couple of beds, a futon, and a small kitchen with a coffee maker, gas range, and fridge. It was cramped but usable, and one room also had a microwave. There were shared barbecues too. I stayed a few nights and booked two days of guided fishing, which is why I’m rating the experience lower. We’d been quoted a package with shore lunch, but our guide said he “didn’t do that.” He also tried to tell us we had to pay him directly and that the package didn’t include him. The owner got it sorted out, though the whole situation felt a little unprofessional.

Denare is a tiny cabin town, a place to wind down after a long summer before winter arrives. The motel is old and could use quite an upgrade, but the couple running it are in their 80s and still managing the business. That’s determination. Jery and his wife were the most hospitable people I’ve met on my travels around Canada, always friendly and willing to go above and beyond despite their age. I just loved them. They’re the realest couple I’ve ever met. Be sure to check out Angels Motel Denare beach, and tell him you were recommended by a Black dude from Africa, Kenya to be exact.

The owner was a really sweet guy to talk to, and the rooms were spacious with storage. The futon worked well as an extra bed. The kitchen could use newer pots and appliances, though. Only one stove burner worked, and the BBQ was so caked with grime it wouldn’t light. The rooms are pretty dated, but that’s what you get in this location and small town. I felt bad walking on the carpet with my shoes on since there wasn’t a place to leave them. Probably the Canadian in me feeling sorry for the carpet.

Gerry and Ruth were excellent hosts, and I can’t thank them enough for such a wonderful adventure. We booked a bear hunt as a couple and both got great bears. The fishing was excellent too. We had a great time and are extremely happy with the trip.

We had no desire to pack up wet, with storms forecast for our last night of the canoe trip, so we made a last-minute stop to ask about a place for all six of us. They put us in the Executive Cabin, which was great. It had all the essentials we needed, plus a nice hot shower and TV.
