Riverview Motel

The room was so filthy it made my skin crawl, and when I pulled back the awful old bedding, I found bed bugs on the mattress. It smelled strongly of cigarettes despite the non-smoking sign on the door. The walls had stains, chunks of unknown material, and questionable marks; the floor hadn’t been cleaned. There was no ventilation, the AC didn’t work, and the bathroom was filthy, like something from a horror movie. I tried to cancel because of the room and told booking.com the truth. The owner wouldn’t release my refund until I changed the reason to simply not wanting to stay. He yelled at me in the office, pointed and waved his hands aggressively, and slammed the door several times. The booking.com representative was on speaker, said she was shocked by his behavior, and worried for my safety. Once I changed the reason and he had proof, he issued the refund. I later called booking.com to file a formal complaint, and they began an investigation. The owner was rude, aggressive, openly sexist, and seemed to have no idea how to run a motel. He manipulated the situation so there wouldn’t be a bad review on booking.com. I suspect that may be why he has positive reviews, perhaps people are being bribed for five stars. Run!

The staff were amazing, and I had a great time. There’s a lovely backyard overlooking the river, plus a community pool across the street to cool off. I recommend the location.

Please choose somewhere else. The rooms were filthy, with stains on the walls, floors, furniture, and towels. I found bed bugs on all the furniture, and even the non-smoking rooms reeked of cigarettes. Long-term and permanent renters stayed outside their rooms with beers from morning to night. The doors weren’t locked between customers, so anyone could get into the rooms and do who knows what before the next paying guest. It felt unsafe for health and well-being. The owner was especially aggressive. His thick accent made much of what he yelled hard to understand, but when I said I was unhappy, he started shouting and threatening me. He treated female customers like dirt and said that was just how his culture acts. There’s plenty more to say about him. Avoid this motel at all costs.

A million-dollar view of the Grand River, and a nice spot to relax, recharge, and have fun by the riverbank. You can enjoy a drink on the hammock or beside the fire pit. The bed was comfy, the bathrooms clean, and the area quiet. Don’t forget to ask CK for pizza coupons.
