Chateau Nova Yellowhead

I couldn't sleep with the old furnace running. It got more than 10 dB louder when it switched on, which felt roughly twice as loud, and the noise kept me up at night. After I told the front desk the next morning, they brought a portable space heater. That older heater still vibrated a bit, but it was much quieter and I could finally sleep through the night. I hope they upgrade or maintain the heating system better, since the noise can really affect sleep. The hotel wasn't busy over Christmas, and I appreciated that the front desk had kindly put me on the top, fourth floor.

I don't know Edmonton well enough to judge the area. The parking lot is large with plenty of spaces, but it's run down. The lounge was okay, though service was a little slow. Inside, the rooms are big and have a microwave, fridge, coffee pot, toaster, dishes, and other things. The hotel could use an update and renovations, but it was cleaner than it seemed when I first walked in. The cable selection was great. One pillow had red spots on it, which was a real turnoff. I didn't call the front desk since I had three others, but I checked the rest of the linens and they looked clean, and I covered the other pillows with clothes just in case.

The anniversary party food was delicious, and guests kept complimenting it. The servers were quick to refill the buffet, and the price was very reasonable for the amount of food. The banquet department staff were so accommodating, especially given how little time we had. I'd recommend this conference center for parties.

I'm leaving this review because the door locks are a safety concern. My two-year-old niece pulled the handle down and opened the locked family room door by herself, then made it all the way to the elevator and almost got away. The rooms apparently don't have the metal latches to lock from inside. When I asked at the desk about child locks or a doorstop, the staff were surprised to hear that. I was visiting family, so I ordered a portable door lock on Amazon and gave it to my cousin for the rest of her stay, so she could sleep and shower without worrying. The first night, they had to barricade the door with an ironing board and luggage. It didn't feel safe or family friendly. The staff were nice, but it also took a couple of days to get the room cleaned, and they had to ask at the front desk. The rooms were reportedly comfortable and clean at the start.
