The Lodge Inn

The room was comfortable and clean, and the stay itself was good. But the front desk experience left me disappointed. The attendant's manner seemed to change after he noticed my name and saw me wearing traditional Eid clothing. He didn't greet us when we came in or left, and seemed uninterested in helping. When I asked about the safety deposit, he gave me an unpleasant look and a dismissive, unhelpful answer. Returning the keys felt discourteous too: he stayed seated and made us lean over the desk to hand them to him. The accommodation met expectations, but the service was far below what I'd expect from a hotel. Basic courtesy and attention would have made the experience much better. After this, I wouldn't stay here again.

We needed a last-minute emergency place and this worked well. We checked in after midnight and, with an early check-in fee, technically paid for one night while getting two sleeps. The room was quiet and comfortable, but there were no tissues in the bathrooms, only toilet paper, and nowhere to hang towels. The location was fine with a car; I'm less sure how convenient it would be on foot.

The hotel staff across all shifts were pleasant, friendly, and professional throughout our multi-day stay. The rooms were economical without feeling rough or dated, and the Roku TV or Google boxes let us cast from our phones or use our own streaming logins. The VLT lounge/bar was a nice surprise, with a relaxed dive-bar feel that wasn't crusty or unsafe. Gracies Place was the one disappointment. We couldn't figure out whether it was open. Around 2:30-3 pm, with four lit OPEN signs outside, we poked our heads in, but the owner (presumably Gracie, a small Philippina lady) rather rudely redirected us to the VLT lounge. We were two hungry, curious guys staying at the hotel, not random walk-ins. Brados and DQ nearby got our food money instead. We enjoyed the Lodge Inn and may book a room again. I hope Gracies Place gets upgraded, changes owners, or is replaced.

The building isn't new, but it was well kept and felt safe, with visible security. Having a restaurant downstairs and a Tim Hortons across the street was convenient. My room was clean and comfortable, and the kitchenette was useful for a longer stay. The Roku TV was a nice extra. Staff were friendly and easy to deal with from check-in onward. I had a great stay at The Lodge Inn and would return.
