I booked a week but had to leave the morning after my first night because of a work cancellation. They refunded five days, keeping payment for two. The manager said that’s their policy: if you book three nights and leave after one, you only get one day refunded. Maybe that makes sense in Banff during peak season, but I was the only car at this Elk Point hotel. It felt like a scam. Be careful booking here.

The bathroom window had no curtain or blinds, just peeling white paint along the bottom pane. With the A/C out in midsummer, I woke up sweaty and disoriented, then felt uneasy that someone on the street might see me.

I paid the manager $114 in cash for a night here after cancelling an order so I could afford it. I’m basically stranded, left here while asleep in my walker, and someone is trying to get out of paying their hotel bill. I’m making the best of it by getting a lot of work done on the book I’m writing. The rooms are about the size of a small bedroom, but I like cozy spaces, so that part doesn’t bother me. The lobby lights were never on, and I never saw anyone there when I came in. Being so close to Halloween, it gave the place a strange, spooky feel. There are no phones in the rooms to call management or emergency services, and no emergency call button or system. There wasn’t any coffee in the lobby or dining room, morning or any other time. I do love eating at The Empress, a great little restaurant just a few doors down. This was my first stay here, and that’s been my experience.

The woman at the desk was so friendly and made us feel welcome. The hotel is easy to find, even in a small town like Elk Point. Inside this historic building, the rooms are modern and surprisingly spacious. I’d happily stay again.

Our prepaid room went unused because the place was locked when we arrived ten minutes before midnight, and nobody answered the phone. We had to drive 40 minutes in the middle of the night to find somewhere else. They denied the refund and called us a no-show. Crooks, as other reviewers have said. Pathetic people running this place. Don’t book here.
