Raging Elk Adventure Lodging

Bathrooms and rooms were clean, check-in and checkout were easy, and the staff were nice. The bar on site was a good place to grab a drink on the patio. We booked a private room and used the Google cast TV, which was a nice surprise. It’s an older hostel, so don’t come expecting luxury. There was some noise from the downstairs bar, though it wasn’t too bad. There’s no AC, but we managed fine with the fan. For an affordable night in a nice location while passing through Fernie, Raging Elk worked for us.

As a cyclist, I had what I needed here. The place felt clean, modern, friendly, quiet, and comfortable. The rooms stayed quiet even with other hostel guests around, who were respectful. Staff seemed mindful of letting people sleep and had lubricated the door hinges so people coming and going wouldn’t wake everyone. The gear storage room is small, and when it’s packed it’s really hard to move around without bumping someone’s bike or gear. Vertical storage might work better. I also arrived a little early and would’ve liked to leave my bike in storage or take a shower.

I hardly ever write reviews, but I’m at the hotel now and it’s incredibly loud. There’s an event right below my room that nobody told us about, and I can still hear it over music blasting in my earbuds. Absolutely terrible. The staff were okay, though.

Check-in and checkout were a breeze, and even though I’d warned them we might arrive after 11 PM, the staff were really kind. My room was clean and quiet, the bed was comfy with lots of pillows, and I woke up to beautiful mountain views. I was only passing through Fernie on the way to the Kootenays and needed a place for the night. Some reviews had me a little worried at first, but I think they come from people expecting a hotel experience rather than a hostel. I’d definitely stay again!
