Hotel Bethel - Fort MacLeod, AB

It was very cheap, but the tub was so gross I had to shower with my socks on. Maybe it’d do for a young guy traveling alone, as long as he doesn’t plan on showering in the morning.

I booked ahead, but both rooms we were shown were dirty and poorly maintained. The reception staff were nice, and they offered us a second room, which was a little better, but the carpet was loose and dirty, the toilet seat was very loose, and the smoke detector was down. In the first room, the walls were especially dirty and the toilet seat was loose too. The office was very dirty and smelled bad. We decided against both rooms and asked for a refund, but they refused. I hope they change their minds. They need a thorough spring clean inside and out and maintenance staff. Not impressed.

Beer bottles were left under the bathroom vanity, there were holes in the walls and doors, something was splattered over the register, and the mirrors were cracked. Disgusting. Do they even maintain or properly clean these rooms?

We told them in advance we’d arrive between 1:30 and 2:00 am, but when we got there at 1:45, the office was locked. The lights were on, yet nobody answered the bell, our knocks, or either of the two phone numbers on the door. We waited more than 30 minutes, and even Booking.com couldn’t reach them, so we had to find another motel in the middle of the night. After a long travel day, being stranded was stressful and unsafe. Booking cancelled the reservation and refunded us at 4:22 am. Six minutes later the motel called, when I’d finally fallen asleep. They ignored us at the door, then disturbed us later without offering an explanation or apology. They’d also refused in advance to let us use an outside plug for our EV, even though it would have cost about $1.35 and the outlets are clearly for block heaters. Petty, unaccommodating, and unprofessional. I wouldn’t rely on this property.
