We chose this hotel twice, two weeks apart, because it was close to the Dow event. The location is handy and the rooms are spacious, but cleanliness was a serious problem both times. After the first stay, the carpets, walls, and floors were filthy, so I emailed the manager hoping our next room would be better. He assured me it would be clean, but the second stay was worse. We were also assigned the wrong room on arrival both times. Staff said the website’s room listings were wrong and head office had not fixed the issue, so we paid extra there for the size we needed. In the second room, food and personal items had been left behind. The desk clerk said there was no cleaning staff available, picked up the larger food pieces herself, but didn’t vacuum. Even a budget hotel should be sanitary. I contacted head office and was told the manager needed to handle it, but he wasn’t answering their calls; they could only offer points. That didn’t give me much confidence in the brand, so we’ll avoid BWH. The hotel’s cleaning oversight clearly wasn’t being maintained, even after we had flagged the problem. Friends stayed at the Comfort Inn across the street and had no issues.

We’ll come back if we’re in Fort Saskatchewan again. The room wasn’t as clean as I’d like, but the staff made a good impression. The woman who answered the phone was easy to understand, the front desk team were really friendly, and the breakfast staff were helpful too. There were quite a few choices at the breakfast bar. I don’t have a credit card, and they were fine with taking a refundable deposit instead. Friendly staff, a decent breakfast selection, and no credit card needed. I’d recommend it.

I called about a hoodie we’d left behind, one with a lot of meaning to us, and the hotel showed no interest in helping. They just said it wasn’t there. That came after a rough stay: staff snapped at us for walking up to the omelette station, and there was no ketchup or syrup at breakfast. We’d forgotten a toothbrush, and although the sign said essentials could be requested, they looked at me like I was crazy and rudely said no. It was the worst hotel experience I’ve had in a long time. I wouldn’t consider going back, and this has made me think twice about staying at a Best Western again.

The staff were accommodating, even letting us check in an hour early and check out an hour late, which we really appreciated. Our room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast came with a good range of options. There’s also a pool and sauna, a nice extra for relaxing. The location worked well for everything we needed. We had a very pleasant stay and would come back.

Cassidy at the front desk made the stay such a pleasant one. She helped with extending my stay and adjusting the accommodations, and handled it all so well. Her warm smile and friendly manner were a real treat. I wish every stay started that way.
