Days Inn by Wyndham Fredericton

For a Jacuzzi honeymoon room, the price was hard to understand. There was no beauty or wow factor, and the layout was odd: a bar fridge stood alone in a corner with a microwave on top and a big swing-back garbage can in the middle of the room. The TV was farther away than any I've seen. I moved the garbage, fridge and microwave from beside the corner jacuzzi tub. The room didn't seem properly renovated, almost like another room had been added. The floors weren't clean, the bathroom was dirty, and there was yellow buildup around the toilet base. The carpets didn't match through the hotel, the furniture was old, and the faux leather chair and sofa were badly ripped. The walls had no extra toilet paper or towels in stock. We'd expected things to be set up in the room as a surprise, but they were left in boxes by the door. The bed had just a sheet and a thin throw. When I asked for two blankets, they said I could have one old yellow fuzzy blanket. Nobody would bring what we needed to the room, so we had to go get it ourselves. Breakfast was continental, didn't look great, and the coffee was awful.

It's an older place, more motel than hotel, but the rooms are fine and service is good. Breakfast is very basic. There are no elevators, so if you have mobility needs, reserve a king room on the main floor.

My ground-floor room at the back of the building felt like a 1970s roadside motel, and it was really disappointing. The tiny TV couldn't compete with the noise from the wall-mounted climate control. The toilet was so low that someone with bad knees might struggle to stand back up. I'd advise everyone to avoid the coffee maker too. Mine had some unknown liquid partly filling it. Yes, I had a dog with me, but he's a Boston Terrier, not a large dog.

The room was clean and breakfast was decent, and the front desk service was good. That's why I gave it three stars. The place is past its prime and needs a fair amount of work. There were patches on the popcorn ceiling in the hallway where they'd put up a piece of wood after opening it to work on a leak. It had leaked again and stained the wood. In the room, the furniture was scratched and dated, the paint was peeling, and the walls had cracks.
