The people here have always been wonderful, and the resort itself is lovely, with a gorgeous, quaint feel and an impeccable spot right on the beach. We’ve come every other Christmas for years, and the service has always gone above and beyond. That’s why this stay was such a letdown. The room smelled strongly of mildew, and we woke in the night with sore throats. The carpets and couch were stained, there were cigarette butts outside our door, and the paths weren’t clear. In the bathroom, tiles were chipping and the ceiling was stained. The rooms have been getting more run down over the years. During this one-night stay, we just wanted to go home. We’d love to see the beautiful property get a proper update, but at what we paid, it wasn’t worth it. We may have to stay somewhere else next time.

The staff who were working were pleasant and helpful, and they deserve credit for doing their best with so few people on hand. The pub food was good too, though the pub was understaffed despite getting about a month’s notice about the hockey tournament, which included several teams staying here. I’ve been here twice in the off season with my kids’ hockey team, and both my room and other team members’ rooms were dirty. The floor had grit and debris on it, and the surfaces were sticky. Maybe staffing is lighter at that time of year. It’s on the edge of town, but the town is small, so that wasn’t a problem. Being by the lake, I imagine it’s lovely in summer, and hopefully better staffed then.

The golf course was a highlight for me. It’s a well-kept nine holes, with a good mix of elevations that makes it a bit challenging. The beach access is a bonus, and the location works well for visiting Grand Bend or Bayfield. In our building, the rooms were fairly clean but badly in need of renovation, almost like stepping back into the eighties. I also didn’t like having fees and gratuities added to the bill. I wouldn’t tip 18% for a buffet breakfast. We haven’t decided whether we’ll return. If you don’t golf, there are other options.

Room 204 cedar lodge was disgusting. We stayed Thursday Oct 16/25, and the room was filthy and dusty, with food in the ice bucket. It had such a musty mildew smell that I couldn’t show it in the pictures I attached. Even the shower curtain rod was backwards. There was no step down at the outside door, which is a serious danger for someone using a cane. For over $275 plus, this was shameful. Don’t blame occupancy, either, because there were barely any guests around. I’ve worked in a hotel for 20 years at Caesars Windsor, which has a 5 Diamond rating, and this place needs serious attention to room maintenance and guest service. Check-in staff seemed untrained and couldn’t split the bill into two invoices. The hot tub area had no sign showing how to turn it on or where the button was, which was way on the other side. Please update the amenities. I was beyond upset.

We were a family of four in a two-bed queen room, and we loved the resort. The rooms are a bit dated, as other reviews say, but ours was clean, very quiet at night, and the beds were VERY comfortable. Each room has an AC unit, TV, and mini fridge, plus a sink just outside the bathroom and another in it. The shower worked great. Our AC quit on night four, but unplugging it and plugging it back in fixed it. The breakfast buffet was very good. I’d just ask them to add oatmeal and/or granola cereal. The pub restaurant was pretty good too, and the nine-hole golf course was great. The pro at the shop was helpful, and most holes were par three and not too hard to get around. The main strip, with restaurants and shops, is really close by. There are several excellent places to eat, and the beautiful beach has a paved path beside it that reminded me of Key West. The resort beach is lovely and wasn’t crowded at all, though it takes about a 10-minute walk through a private neighborhood to get there. Pinery provincial park is about a 15-minute drive away and is one of the best provincial parks I’ve visited for shops, service, and activities. I wasn’t impressed by the fishing prospects, but I didn’t look into fishing in the area deeply. The cycling trail was great, though it needs better signs or markers. We had a really great experience and will definitely come back next year.
