Hotel Le Bonne Entente

The room was lovely, with a good bed and pillows, and a shower box. You can choose a breakfast menu or get a grab-and-go box; the all-you-can-eat breakfast is only available on weekends. I was there during reconstruction, though, and finding the restaurant felt like navigating a maze, with lots of going up and down.

We came for Labor Day weekend, and the warm pool was just right. The hot tub was great too, though I personally like mine a few degrees hotter. I’d hoped to take my wife to a nearby spa for its water circuit, but it was fully booked, so this charming hotel worked out well when we saw the outdoor amenities. Room service was easy to use. The nachos were expensive and nothing special, but the club was excellent. Parking was easy, the price was right, and I loved relaxing in the hammocks. We ran out of time for the evening activities, though the marshmallow roasting sounded interesting. I’ll be back soon.

The hotel looked nice and was clean, but I never got a confirmation email or call. Breakfast ended at 9 a.m., which would have been fine if I’d known. Without that information, we felt rushed and had only 15 minutes for breakfast. That communication and accommodation fell short of what I’d expect from a five-star place. It’s also far from Old Quebec City, so I can’t recommend it unless they make major changes to how they operate.

We stayed in a large, comfortable one-bedroom suite with two double beds in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. The bathroom was roomy and well equipped, with a large jetted tub and a wall-mounted shower, but no separate standing shower. Getting into the tub was difficult for my elderly mother, so I wouldn’t suggest it for someone with limited mobility. The sofa bed was worn and partly broken, and its mattress felt like a metal grid. I put it on the floor to give it more support. There were no blackout curtains in the living room. The rooms and hotel are a bit dated, but very clean and comfortable, and the service was very good. We didn’t have much time to explore. The hotel is easy to reach from the highway, in Ste-Foy, and about a 15-20 minute drive from Old Quebec. I’d still recommend it, but ask about the bath and sofa bed first.
