Le Saint Edouard

The room was spacious and clean, and the hotel’s modern interior was pleasant. Front desk staff were friendly and gave good service, and there’s a small indoor pool for guests. My one-night stay was comfortable apart from a strong, unpleasant musty smell coming from the carpet. The location is excellent, right in the city center and convenient for getting around. I paid CAD 163 for the room, with parking around CAD 35 extra, and breakfast wasn’t included.

We were there at a busy time of year with our two medium-sized dogs, and the accommodation worked out great. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and local restaurants and bars that aren’t aimed at tourists were an easy walk away. For parking, I’d skip the hotel’s $30 outdoor option and use 380 Rue de Carbonne instead. It was $18 a night in a heated garage across the street, and that made a real difference for us.

My room was freezing the whole night, February 16-17. I went to the front desk twice and was told someone would come deal with the heating, but nobody showed up. Eventually they brought a tiny electric heater, and it quit after five minutes. The bed felt old and worn and was extremely uncomfortable. I was also put in a poorly located first-floor room that I didn’t like. This was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. The service was poor, the room had no proper heat in winter, and staff didn’t follow through. I do NOT recommend this hotel. Save your money and book somewhere else.

The hotel itself was very nice, but the indoor parking caused a lot of frustration. We paid $32 a day to park on the fourth floor, and although there was an elevator, it was inaccessible at least 75% of the times I went to the car because the building was closed. During our six days there, our group had to use the stairs for four floors at least ten times. I understand the garage belongs to someone else, so the hotel could only do so much. Still, the price felt far too high for such difficult access. At checkout the manager reluctantly credited one of the five nights we paid for. I thought at least two nights would have been fair. It was pretty ridiculous trying to reach our car, and I think a larger credit would have been an appropriate gesture, even given the hotel’s limited control.
