Super 8 by Wyndham Grande Prairie

There was lots of parking behind the building, which was a plus. The room felt crowded despite being “updated,” and the pool was completely unusable, despite the door sign saying it was serviced one day a week. The staff member seemed rushed and rude, and was on the phone while serving me. I can’t call it a completely bad stay: cleanliness was better than at a “low budget” hotel. I’d return only if there were no other rooms available in the neighborhood.

The room layout was nice, but that was the only real plus. My room faced the road and it was so loud I had to use earplugs. When it’s cold out, avoid this place: the room was absolutely freezing. The unit did provide heat, but the windows are terrible. The parking lot is a joke too, with people leaving vehicles in the lane and in spaces for weeks.

We arrived in GP on Dec 26th at 8pm and stopped to ask about rooms. Google Maps showed rooms for 113$, but the receptionist said there weren’t any at that price. We went back to the car and booked online for 106$. She seemed uninterested in helping and wasn’t friendly at all. The room itself seemed nice, but when we called for extra pillows, she sounded annoyed. She wasn’t sure they had any, but said she’d look and we could pick them up at the desk if she found some. She didn’t call back, so we phoned again later and she said she’d found one. The hotel wasn’t busy, and it left me wondering what hotel doesn’t have extra pillows on request. The unfriendly treatment left a bad taste. I felt like a nuisance instead of a paying customer. 😣

I’ve spent a lot of time here over the years while working in town, often 22 days a month, mainly because the rooms have kitchenettes. The place could use some TLC, though it’s relatively clean. Breakfast has gone from decent to terrible. It’s free, but the microwaved food is garbage and not worth eating. They used to have a station where you could crack and fry your own eggs or make an omelette. That’s gone, and what’s offered now is pathetic.
