Sproat Lake Landing Resort

A balcony room was a lovely place to unwind after hiking, or sit with a book in the morning. The view was calm, and we even spotted a beaver. The room was quiet and comfortable, with a really comfortable bed and plenty of hot water for showers. The restaurant was closed because they didn’t have enough staff, but being close to town made that easy to work around. I loved this beautiful resort, much more than a chain hotel, and would definitely return.

We were happy to spend our last 4 nights in Canada here. The owners and staff were great, and we saw beavers from our balcony. There’s also a good cafe across from the hotel. We had an amazing stay.

We were biking on the island, what a trip! The peaceful atmosphere was lovely, and when we had a mechanical problem, management took care of it incredibly quickly. They fixed it and made sure we were all right, with so much thought and care. Check the restaurant hours before you go, though, because it was closed during our stay. We’d stay here again if we came back to the island.

The lake view from the dock was the best part. We spent mornings and evenings there, and it was what convinced my partner not to check out early after everything else that went wrong. It was quite an experience. While we were in Alberni, locals we met had some interesting ideas about what might be happening there. The basics were frustrating. There’s no elevator, so you have to haul your bags upstairs, and our room keys stopped working within an hour of arrival. Luckily the desk girl was still there. Otherwise, we’d have had to call a number and wait for someone to come from who knows where. She said they were 15 minutes away, but we didn’t have to find out if that was accurate. There also wasn’t anyone on site for many of the hours when you might need to check in or get help. The store, which has the same owners, never opened on time while we were there, despite what its posted hours said. The restaurant cancelled our supper reservation while we were driving over, on the one evening it was supposed to open, because of staff shortages. We were told rooms weren’t cleaned daily, which would have been fine, but ours was cleaned while we were out even though we’d put the do not enter sign on the door. The coffee bags supplied were too much for the one cup coffee maker, and we overflowed it a couple of times trying to use them.
