Chateau Jasper

The first time we stayed here was great, with no problems. This second visit was abysmal. The room was substandard, and in winter the heater barely worked because the drapes covered it. We couldn’t leave them open since the indoor pool looked directly into our room. The fix was for maintenance to zip-tie the drapes. The bathroom extractor fan also didn’t work and was never repaired. The whole place looks shabby and tired. Never again.

The location is perfect, the facilities are convenient, and there’s parking. Apart from that, the hotel was fine. But if you’re used to having the basic cleaning done during your stay, be warned: they make the bed, empty bins and replace towels, but don’t vacuum, disinfect the bathroom or wipe the table. There aren’t sponges or detergent in the room either, so bring cleaning supplies if you want to do it yourself. Yes, a vacuum is awkward to pack, but apparently you should make the effort. Supplies are limited too: one toilet roll, about twenty tissues in the Kleenex box and roughly 50 milliliters of soap. They won’t be replenished during your stay, and asking for more gets you the meanest glare. Bring soap and spare toilet paper, especially if spicy food or questionable hygiene tends to upset your stomach. I’ve noticed this in other Canadian hotels, so maybe people are expected to handle these things themselves here. I guess people don’t wash their hands as much, or need much toilet paper. Anyway, it was fine aside from those odd things for visitors.

The location makes it easy to explore: downtown Jasper is nearby, and Pyramid Lake, Jasper National Park and the Jasper-Yellowhead Museum are a short drive away. After sightseeing or hiking, the indoor pool and hot tub are great, and the small gym works for a quick workout. Our room was spacious, quiet and bright, with a comfortable bed and a practical layout. The bathroom was modern, spotless and supplied with fresh towels and toiletries. The hotel is clean and comfortable, with friendly staff and a calm atmosphere. It’s a good fit for couples, families or solo travelers.

Inside, the hotel is warm, well kept and charming, with a rustic cabin feel that suits the mountain setting. The outside looks a little old, like many Jasper buildings. This was my first time in Jasper, and I really enjoyed staying here. It’s clean and cozy, and the staff are friendly, professional, helpful and quick to respond. The underground parking is especially convenient in winter. My kids liked it too, so it’s become our go-to in Jasper. We’ll definitely return and recommend it.
