Check in went smoothly in Rm #32. The woman at the desk was pleasant, and we got the key cards and directions without any trouble. Once inside, though, we found pills on the floor beside an end table, left behind by a previous guest. Later that night, kids began running and pounding overhead while a dog barked. It went on for a while, so we called the desk. They said no one was above us, although there were lit windows directly overhead. We were moved to Rm #17. Staff said someone would help us move, but only brought the new key cards and left. That was fine, we managed ourselves. The renovated unit was definitely nicer, but the fireplace had been left on and the room was 27°C. Turning it off and lowering the heat didn’t cool the room enough, so we slept both nights with the balcony door open. The next morning, the Keurig flooded the counter. We cleaned it and told the desk. They said they’d bring a new machine and towels, but when we came back there were just a few rags, the old machine was still there, and the new one wasn’t plugged in. I took out the old unit and pulled the plug from behind the mini fridge to set up the replacement myself. The room was alright, though the renovations looked amateur. As a finishing carpenter and painter, I could see the workmanship wasn’t professional. We love the area, and it’s a shame the property doesn’t meet higher standards. It has real potential with better upkeep and attention to detail. From what we saw, previous reviews don’t seem to have affected management or staff at all.

The outdoor hot tub has seen better days and could use a redo. The sauna area and washrooms need some tlc too, and it’s frustrating when it seems nothing gets repaired or made nicer despite what these stays cost. Wifi in our room barely worked and kept disconnecting. Otherwise it’s a great hotel. Our booking said the room had a private patio, but after we settled in and started relaxing, families began walking right past it. With people directly in front of the room and looking in, we couldn’t leave the blinds open to enjoy the view or feel comfortable changing. Don’t count on the patio being private.

The sunrise from the lodge over pyramid lake is spectacular. We appreciated the free one hour canoe rentals, and the kids loved the hot chocolate, having a few cups a day. There’s a free coffee machine with genuinely good lattes and cappuccinos. Nobody was using the hot tub or sauna while we were there, which was great. Our first room had a fireplace that didn’t work, so they upgraded us to a balcony room overlooking the lake. Such kind service! It’s about ten minutes to downtown and an hour to Maligne lake. Plan to spend an hour around sunrise and sunset and you’ll definitely see animals. We missed the bears but saw plenty of elk and moose. We spotted them around 6-7pm near medicine lake, with sunset at 730p.

The anniversary visit was especially disappointing because we had planned to get married at Pyramid Lake after my now-husband proposed there, but the fire changed those plans. We returned to celebrate in the place we had hoped to marry, and the room was in awful shape: it smelled like urine, had a missing ceiling tile and blood on the front door, and was much smaller than expected. We had asked for a pet-friendly room because we brought our dog, but our room shared a connecting door with another room that had three dogs. We could hear everything next door, and putting two rooms with dogs together felt like setting everyone up for trouble. When I lay on the bed, I immediately had an allergic reaction. I'm allergic to cats and some dogs, so I suspect part of the bedding hadn't been washed properly. We asked to move. The receptionist apologized, but the interaction didn't feel like customer service, and nothing was offered for the dirty room, the dogs next door, or having to pack up and move all our things. The replacement room smelled cleaner, but the bathroom still had a dusty ceiling fan, stains in the sink, pubic hair in the tub, and a long black hair sticking out of the shampoo dispenser. We were downstairs and could hear everything above us. Soundproofing is minimal, and nobody checked in afterward to see how the new room was. The price had set our expectations high, so the lack of care and basic standards was a letdown. They charged a resort fee, but the only amenity we found was one hot tub. Nothing about it felt like a resort. If management sees this, I'd like someone to follow up. I've attached photos of some of the issues.

The lake and mountain views are gorgeous, and the whole place feels peaceful. Staff were warm and helpful, and we really enjoyed the hotel restaurant. They also lend out ice skates for free so you can skate on the lake. We had a lovely stay here.
