Sandman Hotel & Suites London Downtown

The staff were friendly, and the front desk welcomed suggestions for improving the guest experience. The Sandman is clean and inexpensive, which made it a good fit for our medical appointment. I understand ownership has recently changed and major renovations are planned to start in January 2026. Secure underground parking costs extra, but I’d recommend it given the location. Breakfast is included, though the selection is sparse. Hopefully that improves with the planned work.

I stayed one night and was very disappointed. The room itself had a visibly sunken, completely worn-out mattress, and the carpet was filthy and stained. The hallways and elevator smelled bad. The hotel is beside a shelter, with people gathered around outside. I first pulled into the empty lot at the back because I hadn’t noticed the gated underground parking. The exterior alone had me thinking about cancelling. At check-in, there was a man sitting in the lobby with bare feet on a chair. It was disgusting. Check-in was easy, and I learned underground parking was $16 and needed a key to access. The lot is tiny, so it may be hard to find space when busy. We walked to dinner, only five minutes away, but not knowing the area, I wish we’d driven. There were lots of homeless people, people in doorways, and trash everywhere. When we returned, the TV wasn’t working. The front desk said there had been an ice storm the day before, the power went out, and Bell hadn’t fixed the service yet. I told him about the poor bed too, and got 50% off, which still didn’t make the stay worthwhile. They could have told me about the TV at check-in. The hotel is in very rough shape, and I didn’t even want to try the free breakfast. Two stars at best. Don’t confuse this with the Sandman Signature hotels, there’s no comparison.

The room was cozy and comfortable, and the service was very nice. We only stayed one night and were out most of the time, but it was a good place to rest. Breakfast was included and seemed like a decent amount, though we went early. Parking is $16. I didn’t like that there are stairs between the underground parking and the elevator, so we had to carry our luggage up first.

Our room was really nice, but I wouldn’t stay here again. The hotel is next to a homeless shelter, and there were people hanging around outside both places that made us uneasy. An alarm of some kind went off on my floor in the middle of the night. I could hear what sounded like a police radio blaring in the hallway, and it went on for about an hour and a half. The hotel covered our parking fee because of it. Breakfast was below expectations. The reviews had led me to expect a hot meal with things like eggs or sausage and gravy. Instead there were cereals, yogurt, and sandwiches to heat in the microwave.
