Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Kamloops

A really good work stay this week. The hotel is close to a grocery store and lively downtown, and the front desk team and management were friendly, often ready with a cookie and coffee pods. Sufiyan at the front desk went above and beyond, which I appreciated. The gym is small, but it has a Peloton, and guests can also use the YMCA just a two-minute walk away. That was thoughtful and helpful. Double Tree Kamloops will be my first choice when I’m in town again.

I left disappointed and expected more from this chain. The room was comfortable enough, but the thermostat didn’t work and it stayed very warm. Breakfast was included for our business event group, yet it took more than 45 minutes to arrive and coffee took over 30 minutes. This happened every morning, even when it was just me and one other guest. The restaurant staff were rude and dismissive. Check-in itself was okay, though I waited ten minutes for someone to come to the desk. A young woman I met after going for a run was lovely and very helpful.

The decor feels like a refreshing change from the usual hotel look, and the modern rooms are well kept. Being right downtown means restaurants and shops are an easy walk away. It’s priced accordingly, and you do get what you pay for. There’s a reassuring sense of security with patrols around the clock, though the sub-floor parking isn’t gated. I’d still recommend it.

I was on the fifth floor and had a pretty mountain view. Reception were friendly and really helpful, going out of their way for me. This DoubleTree exceeded my expectations compared with other locations I’ve stayed at. I’d stay here again if I’m in the area.
