Road 121 Motel

The Wi-Fi worked fine, and the staff member at check-in was friendly. They also let me stay until 2 p.m. instead of checking out at 11, since my car was being repaired at CTC across the street. I’d had car trouble and needed somewhere for the night, but I wouldn’t stay here again unless I had no choice. This was apparently their newest renovated unit, number 5, but there were leaves on the floor from fall, mold in the shower, and no toilet paper, pen, notepad, or tissues. The TV signal kept dropping, with horizontal lines, and there was just one sheet and a duvet, no blankets. Both baseboards ran constantly, yet the room never got above 17 C. It went down to -36, so the cold was no small thing.

My wife and I needed a room for the night while we were in the area. It was budget-friendly, and our security deposit came back the next day. The location is close enough to downtown to walk, and there’s an Ultramar gas bar and convenience store where you can buy coffee. Our room was newly renovated, surprisingly quiet, and had faux wood floors, a great bed, A/C, and a new satellite TV.

The carpets were dirty, though in the fall I can see how they’d be hard to keep clean. The staff were nice, friendly, and very talkative. We had a family room with three beds, which suited us perfectly. Not bad for an overnight stay.

The room smelled awful, like body odour mixed with stale cigarette smoke. Open windows, two air fresheners, and perfume didn’t make it go away. The bathroom door hit the sink before it could open fully, the comforter didn’t fit the bed, and the only chair was so lopsided we had to stand on it to reach the A/C controls. The A/C barely worked, and the pillows were paper-thin. The motel is right in the gas station parking lot. Disgusting. I’d rather sleep in my vehicle.
