Kincardinite Motel

The place was a mess, and I didn’t trust the linens to be free of bed bugs or anything else. There were bugs all over the ceiling, the carpet badly needed vacuuming, and one bed frame was broken with a corner resting on the floor. It was tilted at least 30 degrees. The gentleman suggested our 8-year-old sleep there, though she’d have been wedged into the top corner. We pointed out the problems and said we didn’t want to stay, but he refused to return our money. Apparently they think $150 for a filthy room with a broken bed is fine. We used to stay here before the ownership changed. It was always retro, but clean. This weekend was completely different: the grass hadn’t been cut in weeks, the pool looked neglected, and there was confusion about our reservation. We’d arrived to ask about early check-in and foolishly paid cash in advance, though I’m still not sure why they wanted payment up front when hotels normally take payment at checkout. The room wasn’t ready, but they let us put our groceries in the fridge. I can’t understand what improvements other reviewers are talking about. Travellers, beware. Don’t waste your money or be cautiously optimistic like I was. It’s sad to see the place ruined this way.

It’s dated, but the rooms are being renovated gradually and they’re clean. I stayed a few days and had a wonderful experience. The owners went out of their way to make sure we were happy and satisfied, and were very accommodating. Every staff member we met was among the nicest people I’ve encountered.

The room was disgusting, with bugs everywhere, no bed sheets, pubic hair and urine on the toilet, and a strange smell. The whole setup seemed unfinished and clearly hadn’t been cleaned in ages. We only got in after waiting about 20 minutes, and the check-in had already been a mess. The older gentleman at the desk was extremely rude while trying to find our online reservation. He kept sorting through papers and calling someone I assume was his boss. Staying here for the night was a huge mistake. Guests, beware. There are lots of other places in Kincardine, so don’t waste your money.

The room was dirty and needed vacuuming, and the fridge was filthy. There were cobwebs and mold or mildew too. At check-in they gave us a single bed even though I’d booked two. The front desk person on duty argued with me, despite my confirmation email showing the two beds. We won’t return. We spoke with a few other guests who had the same experience and said they wouldn’t come back either.
